March 31, 2014

This is a nifty idea!

big poetry giveaway 2014

 Poets are giving away books.

Ideally it should be one of my own books and one by a favourite poet. Posted to you…the lucky winner…anywhere in the world.

But Kelli, at Book of Kells, is a decent gal: the rules allow for poets with chapbooks to join in the fun.

And, for those of us awaiting the delight of seeing a first collection in print – we just post off two of our best loved poetry collections.

So, that’s what you’ll get from me. Plus a signed copy of my poem Upstream, the Bliss of Heaven which recently won the  2014 WOW! Poetry Award.

The giveaway ends on April 30th, and the winner announced in the first week of May.

I will draw the winner from the comments left below.

While you’re at it – tell me YOUR favourite poet!

Hi! I’m glad you’re in. My favorite poet is (me) but that’s just my writing philosophy. Outside of loving my own work (I think we’re all supposed to why not?) which often startles people who don’t know me I could no way in heck pick a favorite out of all the poets I love the poets and poems that sustain me.
    Rebecca Loudon

    • That’s a good way of looking at it! We need different types of sustenance at various stages of our lives, or to match our moods.

  4. One of my favorite poets is Anne Carson. Thanks for hosting this giveaway.

  5. Happy NaPoWriMo! Count me in, please!

Also, favorite poet…hard to pick. It’s a constantly shifting circle of people, haha. So, here are a couple: Anis Mojgani and Edgar Allan Poe.

    • Hmmmm…. I won’t say ‘Nevermore’. Ah. Now. I just did.
But, I have to say I’m loving the poets people are talking about here!

  6. Carole Mertz permalink

Would love to win “Upstream, the Bliss of Heaven.”

    • Ah – a single wee slip of paper, Carole! Well, at the moment anyway. Thanks for dropping by and best of luck with the draw.

  7. I’d love to play! I’m happy reading Terrance Hayes again today. xo

  8. Me please!

I love Sylvia Plath and also Percy B.Shelley

  9. Hello! Thanks for doing this! My favorite poet right now is Li-Young Lee. I’m Brian Wong and my e-mail is:

    Happy Poetry Month!

  10. Blue permalink

Every morning I have tried to post my favourite poet; Sylvia Platt, Kahlil Gibran, Thomas Moore,Yuzuru Miura, Anne Sexton, Rumi and by afternoon, my mind, like my mood has changed.
It is Tuesday and as Santa Ana winds blow and leave their scent of lemon on my windowsill, Pablo Neruda springs to mind. How can one not love a man who only ever wrote his poems in green ink…?

    • Hey Blue!! I like the choice of Pablo…and the scent of lemon. Here at the moment the wind is gusting in the ‘scent’ of seaweed!

  11. Pat M. Kuras permalink

Please include me in the big poetry give-away. Thank you! Pat M. Kuras

  12. Hi Karen,
Please enter my name in your drawing. I love so many poets that it would be difficult for me to name just one as a favorite, but Wendell Berry’s name comes to mind. I love and have memorized his “The Peace of Wild Things” which has been a great blessing to me. Thank you for your generosity and best wishes in all of your poetic endeavors. ~Marianne Mersereau –

    • Thanks, Lynn. What’s great about this are the different poets’ names that are popping up. Best,

  15. Happy to jump on this train
hope the month is raining green and fun on you
